Founded by Doug Fullington in 1993, the Tudor Choir is a Seattle-based vocal chamber ensemble that has been hailed as “a superb choir” (Gramophone), as well as “a choir to watch” (Fanfare). The Tudor Choir specializes in Renaissance polyphony and also has been acclaimed for its performances of early American and contemporary music. The choir has performed extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest, including concert appearances in Vancouver, British Columbia, and Portland, Oregon, and has made guest appearances with the Mark Morris Dance Group, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle Baroque Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, and Early Music Guild of Seattle. The choir made its East Coast debut in December 2012, performing at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and in Pennsylvania. The Tudor Choir has made numerous recordings for the Loft, Gothic, and Scribe labels and recently has recorded music by Nico Muhly and Seattle-based composer Jeff Junkinsmith.
Seattle composer Jeff Junkinsmith has written extensively for choirs, including several pieces that have become standard repertory for the Compline Choir of St. Mark’s Cathedral, Seattle. In response to a 2000 commission from the Tudor Choir, Dr. Junkinsmith composed the anthem Sancta Maria, mater Dei, which was premiered in 2001. Subsequently, he made the propers for the service of Candlemas at the request of Tudor Choir director Doug Fullington. Junkinsmith’s most recent composition is a three-movement work for piano four-hands entitled Rashomon, which was performed by piano duos in Poland, Brazil, and Lithuania.
Jeff Junkinsmith holds a Ph.D. in composition from the University of Iowa and currently teaches music theory in the music department at Shoreline Community College.
Brandon Stirling Baker is an American lighting designer for ballet, opera, and theater. He studied at the California Institute of the Arts, Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, and the Yale School of Drama as a Special Research Fellow in design. His lighting has been commissioned by New York City Ballet, Miami City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Paul Taylor, and Limon Dance Company, among many others. Baker’s lighting has been presented nationally and internationally by many of the world’s great theatrical venues. Since 2010, he has been a frequent collaborator with Tony Award-winning choreographer Justin Peck.
In 2019, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum Works & Process series commissioned Mr. Baker with a program, The Choreography of Light, dedicated to his work as a lighting designer for ballet. Mr. Baker received the prestigious Knight of Illumination Award (KOI-USA) in 2019, Lotos Foundation Prize in 2016, and Center for Ballet and the Arts at NYU Residency in 2018.
Mr. Baker was appointed Lighting Director and Lighting Designer of Boston Ballet in 2018. He is a visiting artist and guest lecturer for educational programs throughout the United States.
